My prayer is that your love may more and more abound, both in understanding and wealth of experience, so that with a clear conscience and blameless conduct you may learn to value the things that really matter, up to the very day of Christ.
--Philippians 1:10
MY INTENTION. I don't claim to have a monopoly on wisdom, by any means; but it seems to me that, somewhere on this great sea of information, there ought to be a place where the things that really matter in life are stated and discussed very concisely.
Human beings are creatures of God. Human beings are called to celebrate the creator-creature relationship. Human beings are to strive not to be deluded by the notion that they themselves are supreme beings. Human beings are called to love. Human beings are called to heed the reality of time as fleeting. Human beings are mortal. Human beings must seek an appreciation of their worth and purpose here and now.
Feelings | Openness to Counseling | The Dr. Margarett Schlientz Notes
Retreat time being the time of year when I focus more than at any other time on what really matters, I want to share some information on the hermitage where I most frequently go on retreat.
Vision of Peace Hermitages, P.O. Box 69, Pevely, MO 63070; 636-475-3697.
Vision of Peace offers a place for the renewal of God's people. For those seeking God through prayer and solitude, Vision of Peace provides a lodging built into the hillside, overlooking the Mississippi River bluffs. These hermitages are situated to provide privacy and silence. The peaceful setting includes acres of woods, walking paths and wildlife native to Missouri.
Those who come to be alone for a time tell us that --
They often experience God, self and nature in new ways.
They delight in discovering and treasuring their own inner rhythm ... establishing their own schedule and pace.
They are strengthened in their sense of the need for solitude in their daily lives.
Opportunities for worship also include morning prayer, communion service and evening prayer daily. Mass is celebrated on weekends and occasionally during the week. Spiritual direction and directed retreats are available.
The hermitages are available year round. One of the hermitages is designed to accommodate the physically challenged person. Each hermitage is equipped with utensils for light cooking: small refrigerator, coffee-maker, microwave or broiler/oven, hot plate, crockpot, toaster, dishes, silverware, pots and pans. Each hermitage has its own bath facilities; towels and linens are supplied.
Vision of Peace is located 30 miles south of downtown St. Louis and 2.5 miles from Interstate 55.
Take Interstate 55 to Exit 180 (Pevely/Hillsboro, Hwy. Z). Turn east on Hwy. Z, cross Hwy. 61-67. Continue one mile. Turn right, before the Vision of Peace sign. Go one half mile and park in the gravel lot.
(From Illinois: Take Interstate 255 across Jefferson Barracks Bridge, and travel south on I-55 to Pevely.)
